The Athletic reporter Tim Spiers has been discussing what would happen if Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Raul Jimenez was to get injured.

This season, the 29-year-old Mexican has been a key player for the Old Gold as he has been their second-best performer in the Premier League with a 7.34/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

However, Jimenez is the only current out-and-out striker in Wolves’ first-team squad bar Leonardo Campana (per Transfermarkt), and Campana has not yet made a senior appearance for the club (per Transfermarkt).

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View Podcast, Spiers discussed what would happen if Wolves’ star frontman was injured.

To start this quiz on Ruben Neves with an easy one, in the region of how much did the Old Gold pay to secure the midfielder's services?

He said: “Well, that’s Podence’s time to shine when Jimenez gets injured. I think they’d probably go [Diogo] Jota centrally and two either side.

“But you’re gonna have to change the game plan completely and that would be a massive concern. We’ve been saying this for two years, so fingers crossed, we don’t have to worry about it.

“I don’t know what they’d do without him. Like I said, they’d probably put Jota there and [Adama] Traore can play centrally as well, he has done, but it’s absolutely not ideal.

“It doesn’t look good for Campana. Like the question says, he doesn’t even make the bench, he obviously must be way off it at the moment. Nine subs and he can’t get on the bench…”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the reporter had to say, it seems that Diogo Jota would most likely be played centrally despite him not being an out-and-out striker.

Do Wolves need to sign another striker to support Raul Jimenez this summer?

Yes, we are lacking there

No, we don't need one

No, we don't need one

The Portuguese winger has played as a centre-forward on 11 occasions this season (per Transfermarkt), though, so he would be no stranger to the position.
