Wolverhampton Wanderers’ French defender Willy Boly is reportedly set to sign a new contract with the Old Gold.
According to Tim Spiers of The Athletic, the Frenchman is ‘on the verge’ of signing a new ‘long-term agreement’ with Nuno Espirito Santo’s outfit.
The 29-year-old’s current contract at Molineux is set to expire next summer (per Transfermarkt).
The report from The Athletic also states that due to his impressive performances for Wolves, Boly has attracted interest from ‘clubs across Europe’.
However, the Old Gold’s French defender is ‘settled’ in the Midlands and is therefore ‘happy to commit his future’ to Wolves with a long-term contract.
Boly currently has a market value of £13.05m, according to Transfermarkt.
TIF Thoughts…
When considering Boly’s role in the team this season, a new contract for the 29-year-old defender appears to be a no-brainer.
In the Premier League this season, the Frenchman has been Wolves’ third-best performer with a hugely impressive 7.26/10 average rating (per WhoScored).
The only two players to better Boly’s rating in the league are Raul Jimenez (7.34/10) and Adama Traore (7.61/10).
Is the decision to extend Willy Boly's contract with Wolves a no-brainer?Yes, he needs to stayNo, not good enough |
When taking Boly’s performance into account in terms of key defensive statistics, too, his value to the Molineux club becomes even more apparent.
In the league, Boly has made the third-most tackles (2.6) and the most interceptions in the squad (2) per game on average.
So, it would certainly seem like a wise decision from the club to ensure that the Frenchman has his long-term future tied down to the Old Gold.
