Wolverhmpton Wanderers have sent a transfer offer to Ligue 1 outfit Stade de Reims to secure their French centre-back Axel Disasi.

According to L’Equipe, the Old Gold are keen on recruiting the 22-year-old and have made an offer to seal his arrival.

As stated in the French publication’s report, the figure that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are reported to have offered is €15m (£13.4m).

The transfer offer from the Old Gold and interest from elsewhere has left the Ligue 1 outfit ‘preparing to lose’ their central defender.

Reportedly, French outfit Rennes are also keen on the signing of Disasi, however, it is Wolves that have been the first club to ‘get down to business’ over the player.

Reims’ £6.48m-rated defender currently only has a single season remaining on his contract at the Stade Auguste-Delaune (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

With Wolves almost always opting for a three-back or a five-back formation (per Transfermarkt), it would seem that purchasing a centre-back in the next window would be sensible.

That is due to the fact that the Old Gold currently only have four central defenders in their first-team squad, with Ryan Bennett spending the latter half of the season on loan at Leicester City (per Transfermarkt), so further cover may be sensible.

Disasi, meanwhile, appears as though he would not only add cover, but also quality to Wolves’ squad, judging from his average rating this season.

Do Wolves need to sign a new central defender in the summer transfer window?

Over 27 Ligue 1 appearances this term, the 22-year-old Frenchman earned an impressive 6.84/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

In comparison to Wolves captain Conor Coady, the English defender has picked up a weaker 6.49/10 rating over 29 appearances in the Premier League (per WhoScored).

So it would seem that the Frenchman would be adding more than depth to the squad, but also a good level of ability.
