Wolverhampton Wanderers could lose Raul Jimenez to Manchester United, according to a report in the Mirror. It is alleged that United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of the striker and the West Midlands club are aware the Mexican would be tempted by the move

Citing reports in Italy, it is claimed that the club could cash in on Jimenez, who is believed to be looking for ‘one last big payday’.

Jimenez arrived at Molineux in the summer of 2018, initially on loan (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). During his first season, he made a total of 44 appearances in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing eight assists. His four goals in the FA Cup helped Nuno Espirito Santo’s side reach the semi-finals of the competition where they lost to Watford at Wembley after extra time.

In July 2019, the 29-year-old completed a permanent move to the Premier League from Benfica in a deal reportedly worth £34.2m. The centre-forward has started 97% of Wolves’ league fixtures so far this season, contributing an impressive 13 goals and six assists (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

According to WhoScored.com, his average performance rating currently stands at 7.29/10, making him the Old Gold’s second-most consistent performer this season, only behind Adama Traore.

TIF Thoughts…

The report claims that Wolves are aware the player may be tempted by a move to Manchester United but in our view, it won’t be easy to replace the forward’s goals. His 6ft 2in frame provides Espirito Santo’s side with a focal point in attack and has certainly hit the ground running at Molineux, with 39 goals in 88 Wolves appearances, marking his best goals-per-game ratio at a single club.

Wolves are still in the running for a place in both the Champions League and Europa League next season and the Mirror claims their qualification for European competition could be key in terms of helping them hold onto their star players – we tend to agree.
