Hammers insider @ExWHUemployee has been discussing West Ham United’s French central defender Issa Diop.
The 23-year-old centre-back has been a West Ham player since the summer of 2018, having signed for the club from Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse for £22m (per BBC).
Since then, the £25.2m-rated defender has made 66 appearances for the Irons in which he has managed to bag five goals for the club (per Transfermarkt).
So, in the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, @ExWHUemployee aired his thoughts on the Frenchman.
He said: “I think Diop is a good defender. I think he’s got potential. I think he’s perhaps not as good as I originally thought he was, but hopefully, it’s just a blip.
“I like Diop, I’d like Diop to stay, I’d like him to be a big part of our future. So yeah, I do think he is a good player.
“He’s very highly rated by a couple of other clubs; Jose Mourinho loves him. I mean, he was very interested at Manchester United, [it] wouldn’t surprise me if he was still interested at Spurs.
“I think he’s got attention from top managers. So, there’s obviously something about him that other people see as well. So yeah, I think he’s a good player.”
TIF Thoughts…
As can be seen in what @ExWHUemployee had to say, he clearly rates the defender and it could also be possible that there is some transfer interest in the centre-back.
Would you say Issa Diop is a big part of West Ham United's future? No, not good enoughYes, he's a good player |
However, this season Diop has only been West Ham’s 10th-best performer in the Premier League with a 6.64/10 average rating (per WhoScored). So, perhaps he could be performing a little better.
