The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas has aired his belief that there is a chance that West Ham United may relieve David Moyes of his duties before the end of the season.

The former Manchester United manager has been at the helm of the London Stadium club since it was announced in December that he had been reappointed (per BBC).

Since he returned to the Hammers, the Scotsman has overseen a weak record of just three games won in 14 matches; with two drawn and nine lost (per Transfermarkt).

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons Podcast, Thomas discussed his belief that there is a chance that the 57-year-old manager could be shown the exit door before the season is out.

To start this quiz on Mark Noble with a tough one, in what year did the midfielder make his league debut for the Hammers?

He said: “I really wouldn’t rule it out [Moyes being replaced before the end of the season].

“If West Ham suffer relegation, there’s no guarantee West Ham will win promotion next season.

“What could happen is, West Ham could be like a Sunderland or Bolton who get stuck in the Championship for so long, or perhaps suffer relegation to League One.

“That’s how you’re looking at it. If West Ham suffer relegation, pretty much the whole team is leaving. [Declan] Rice, [Tomas] Soucek, [Lukasz] Fabianski – probably [Mark] Noble and a few others will be the only ones there.

“So, the board could panic can be like: ‘Hey, Big Sam’s available’ or whoever is available, ‘let’s get them in’.

“I really wouldn’t put it past this board at all, I really wouldn’t.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what The Athletic reporter had to say, he seems to firmly believe that there is a chance that the Scot could be sacked before the season is out.

With the Hammers currently only out of the relegation zone on goal difference alone with seven matches left to play (per BBC), the club certainly looks to be in a perilous position.
