Supporters of West Ham United have been flocking to a Twitter post which was shared by the Hammers’ English midfielder Jack Wilshere.
On Monday, the 28-year-old Englishman responded to a post which was shared on the Irons’ official Twitter account regarding club legends (per West Ham).
The club’s post asked fans to share which former player made them fall in love with football and included images of three former Hammers players and one current one – Mark Noble.
Wilshere then proceeded to reply to the post and state that his choice was Paolo Di Canio before stating ‘sorry skip’ (per Jack Wilshere).
A photo of the legendary Italian forward had been included in the original tweet by the London club.
The man chosen by Wilshere spent five years at Upton Park with the Hammers, having arrived from Sheffield Wednesday in 1998 and departed for Charlton Athletic in 2003 (per Transfermarkt).
Noble, however, has been part of the senior setup at West Ham since 2006, having graduated from the Irons’ academy system 14 years ago (per Transfermarkt).
Following the former Arsenal man’s post to Twitter, though, the London Stadium faithful aired their reactions to Wilshere’s choice.

Mark Noble is a West Ham legend, but there was something very magical about DiCanio! ??

Di canio. Noble made me fall out of it

Wilshere himself has been a West Ham player since the summer of 2018, having joined from Arsenal on a free transfer (per Transfermarkt).
Since then, though, the English midfielder has only made 16 appearances for the Hammers’ first team in which he has scored once and assisted once (per Transfermarkt).
@Noble16Mark a constant reminder of what football used to mean and he helps me maintain that love ?

He is home.

Would you consider Mark Noble as a West Ham legend?Yes, he definitely isNo, he definitely isn't |
This season, the Irons will have been hoping for better from the 28-year-old middleman as Wilshere has made only six Premier League appearances for the club (per WhoScored).
In those six games, too, Wilshere has picked up a weak 5.99/10 performance rating which has made him the club’s second-worst performer in the league.
To be fair, I think even Mark Noble would vote the other 3 here!

Maybe because he plays for the club he loves and isn’t motivated by money like the majority of players. He’s a proper role model for the youth growing up in the east end of London so that’s why ??

As can be seen in these responses from West Ham fans, Wilshere’s post seemed to divide opinion; with some supporters rating Noble’s abilities more than others.
