The Athletic journalist Sam Delaney has revealed one factor which may decide whether or not David Moyes will survive the summer as West Ham United manager.

Moyes was re-appointed by the Irons in late December on an 18-month contract which saw him return to the club for his second spell as manager (per BBC).

The former Manchester United gaffer’s first tenure at the club had ended after just six months in May 2018 (per Transfermarkt).

However, Delaney revealed in the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons podcast that the Scotsman could end up suffering a similar fate this summer depending on one factor.

He said: “Whether we stay up or go down, I think it will come down to the whim of the three people who run the club, how they feel the day after the season ends and also, crucially – and this is what happened to Moyes before – who else is available.

“They might have kept David Moyes on last time, but it came to attention that [Manuel] Pellegrini was available, and their head was turned by that because it felt like a sexy appointment to hire a manager who had once managed Real Madrid.

“So, the same thing will happen again. If an agent of a more attractive-sounding manager rings up David Sullivan the day after David Moyes keeps us up, David Moyes will be out.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging from what the journalist had to say on Moyes, it seems that he may be set to suffer a similar fate to his previous stint at the club if the board perceive there to be a better option elsewhere.

However, it would seem that he is yet to impress as the manager of the club in his second stint due to his poor record of only three games won out of 12 (per Transfermarkt).

Should David Moyes be allowed to see out his 18-month contract with the club at least?

In fact, the 0.92 points-per-game total that the Scottish manager has picked up since his appointment in December is the second-worst total of his career behind his 0.72 points-per-game total with Sunderland.

So, while the journalist stated that Moyes’ future may come down to who else is available, it may also come down to the Scotsman’s poor record if it continues.
