Supporters of West Ham United have been flocking to a social media post which was shared by the Hammers’ former French attacker Dimitri Payet.

On Wednesday, @TheSportsman shared footage of a goal scored by the 33-year-old winger for the Irons which the player then quote tweeted with three heart-eyes emojis (per Dimitri Payet).

The Marseille player signed for West Ham from his current club in the summer of 2015 for £13.5m on a five-year deal (per Transfermarkt).

Payet would then go on to score an impressive 15 goals and bag 23 assists over 60 appearances for the club during his stay in London (per Transfermarkt).

However, the Frenchman returned to Marseille in January 2017 just a year and a half after signing for the Hammers (per Transfermarkt).

To secure his exit from the club, Payet forced his way out of West Ham and was ultimately sold in the ‘interests of squad unity’ which left Irons’ manager at the time Slaven Bilic feeling betrayed (per The Guardian).

So, after the club’s former player quote tweeted the footage of himself playing for the London Stadium club, many supporters flocked to comment.

During his first season with the Irons, Payet was in scintillating form as he bagged nine goals and 12 assists over 30 league appearances which led to a 7.74/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

It has also led to many West Ham fans missing his talents.

Despite being 33 years old now, the attacker is still showing his impressive talents for Marseille as he scored nine goals and assisted four over 22 Ligue 1 appearances in the 2019/20 season (per WhoScored).

Over those appearances, too, Payet earned a hugely impressive 7.73/10 average rating which made him Marseille’s best-performing player in the league.

As can be seen in these responses from West Ham supporters, they are divided between some wanting him to return and others still frustrated with him over the way he left the club.
