Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to some footage of Erik Lamela scoring a goal in the 11 vs 11 training match from last Friday.
Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold shared the footage of the Argentine, after the winger posted it on his Instagram page, adding that: “A fully fit Erik Lamela, having had 3 months to properly heal muscle issues that often come in the aftermath of a long-term injury, could be a force again. This solo goal from Friday’s training game hints at that.”
The footage shows the former Roma man skip past several defenders before smashing the ball into the roof of the net.
Spurs signed the 28-year-old in 2013 and in nearly seven years with the North London club, he has gone on to make 214 appearances; contributing 33 goals and 47 assists (per Transfermarkt). Regular injury issues have proved to be a problem for the winger throughout his time with the Lilywhites and have no doubt prevented him from being more of a regular; most notably when he missed 57 games with a hip injury between October 2016 and November 2017 (per Transfermarkt).
The winger has been praised by Jose Mourinho for his willingness to play in matches despite carrying slight injuries and Gold clearly feels that after the enforced break from Premier League football, the 28-year-old can be a real force in the Portuguese manager’s side when the season resumes later this month.
Can you see Lamela being a regular in the remaining fixtures?

World class talent on his day. He just isn’t consistent. Def want to see him playing more.

I’ve always thought that Lamela had been criminally underrated for us. He provides pressure and an edge out wide that we usually lack. Plus, he can actually pass the Ball. He’s just been hampered by injuries every season he’s been with us. I prefer Lamela to Lucas.

Messi can’t do that

Some Spurs fans suggested that Lamela would no doubt be injured again soon.
He’s gonna pull some muscle again soon

He will still be injured. Mark my words.

Overall, it seems as if a lot of Spurs fans were more focused on being critical of their 28-year-old winger than appreciating his impressive goal in training, so hopefully, the Argentinian international will be able to stay fit and impress fans when the season resumes.
