Tottenham Hotspur-focused Twitter account @HotspurRelated caught the attention of plenty of Spurs supporters recently after they shared some comments that were recently made by Toby Alderweireld concerning Tottenham’s preparation for the return of the Premier League

This tweet quotes Alderweireld as saying that everyone at Spurs ‘went into beast mode’ during the period in which professional football was postponed in England due to the current viral outbreak. Despite the fact that professional football was postponed, this tweet quotes Alderweireld as saying that he and his teammates weren’t treating this break as a holiday.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

@HotspurRelated cite The Guardian as the original source of the centre-back’s comments and The Guardian’s recent article containing these quotes also shares that the Belgian defender has claimed that he and his teammates felt prepared to return to Premier League action when they did eventually return to their Hotspur Way training ground in May.

Plenty of Tottenham fans have flocked to @HotspurRelated’s tweet sharing Alderweireld’s recent comments.

Some Spurs supporters have questioned Alderweireld’s claim that he and his teammates ‘went into beast mode’ during the UK lockdown, taking this opportunity to mention that Spurs recently lost a behind-closed-doors friendly to Norwich City

One Spurs fan criticised Alderweireld by calling him ‘Mourinho’s mouthpiece’, whilst another Tottenham supporter replied to this post to predict that Tottenham will deliver a ‘lacklustre display’ when they take on Manchester United this Friday

However, some Spurs fans responded more positively to Alderweireld’s recent comments.

It may be fair to say that the result of a behind-closed-doors friendly is not a clear indicator of how Spurs’ players kept themselves fit during the lockdown and Tottenham supporters may have to wait until Friday’s Premier League clash with the Red Devils to assess their team’s preparation properly, however, it may be understandable if Alderweireld’s latest comments do increase the expectation on the team to perform well when they return to Premier League action.
