Supporters of Tottenham Hotspur have been reacting to the suggestion that Eric Dier is set to sign a new contract with Spurs.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the English midfielder is on the verge of signing a new deal with the North London club (via Daily_Hotspur).
The £18 million-rated middleman’s contract with the club is currently set to expire at the end of next season (per Transfermarkt).
Spurs’ 26-year-old has been with the side for almost six years now, having signed from Sporting CP for a fee of £4.5 million in the summer of 2014 (per Transfermarkt).
Since then, Dier has gone on to make 235 Tottenham appearances in which he has scored 11 goals and assisted 11 for teammates (per Transfermarkt).
Not only has Dier bagged 22 goal involvements during his Spurs career, but it also seems that he has earned the adoration of supporters.
After the contract suggestion was relayed to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful, some fans of the club let their delight over the supposed new contract be known.

During this season, Dier has been in somewhat underwhelming form for Jose Mourinho’s outfit as he has picked up a 6.63/10 average rating (per WhoScored).
This may have influenced some of the negative replies.
One of the worse footballers to have put on a spurs shirt in the last 5 years !!! Goodness me this club

To further suggest that the midfielder’s average rating has been weak, it has made him the 12th-worst performer for Spurs in the Premier League this season.
Having made only the joint-tenth-most tackles (1.4) and the ninth-most interceptions (0.8) per league game on average for Tottenham, it is clear to see why his rating has been low.
Desperate times and all that!
