Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to some old quotes from Mauricio Pochettino regarding the Champions League final defeat against Liverpool from last season.

LastWordOnSpurs shared some quotes from the Argentinian manager on Twitter, to mark the one-year anniversary since the  2019 Champions League final. The former Southampton boss spoke on Jake Humphrey’s ‘The High Performance Podcast’ earlier this year about the final in Madrid, saying:

“We were better than Liverpool, deserved more and we dominated. It’s our responsibility we lost. The chapter was done after. I wanted to move forward, I was already thinking rebuild.”

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

An early penalty from Mohamed Salah and a late finish from Divock Origi were enough for Liverpool to triumph in last season’s Champions League final, although the stats do seem to back up Pochettino’s quotes; his side had significantly more possession and a greater amount of shots on target than Jurgen Klopp’s side (per BBC).

Unfortunately, they weren’t able to make those chances count and the North London club also arguably failed to rebuild during the summer, with the Argentinian unable to move on the players he wanted in the summer transfer window. He was, of course, later sacked in November after a dreadful start to the season.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the old quotes from Pochettino can be seen in the tweets below.

Plenty of fans commented on how their former manager dropped Lucas Moura for the final, despite the Brazilian having scored the hat-trick to send the Lilywhites to the final.

Other Spurs fans commented that Pochettino was wrong to suggest that they dominated the game.

Meanwhile, some fans simply commented on how much they miss the Argentinian manager.

Overall, it seems as if a lot of Spurs fans disagree with Pochettino’s comments regarding the final against Liverpool.
