Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to the latest transfer news on Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to the Evening Standard (via Daily Hotspur), the Saints are open to selling the midfielder this summer, but could demand £35 million for the Danish international. This is despite the 24-year-old’s contract being set to expire next season and with it having been widely reported that he is keen to move on to a bigger club.

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

Spurs certainly look to be the front-runners to sign the former Bayern Munich man this summer, with Sky Sports having originally reported on their interest back in January, whilst The Telegraph had more recently confirmed that Jose Mourinho’s side were still interested in signing the 24-year-old, but will have to assess their budget amid the financial impact of the current viral outbreak.

Is Hojbjerg worth anywhere near £35 million?

It has also been previously suggested by the Evening Standard that Mourinho will have very little by way of a transfer budget this summer and may be reliant on free transfers and swap deals, so it is perhaps difficult to see them matching Southampton’s reported £35 million asking price.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the latest report on Hojbjerg can be seen in the tweets below.

Lots of Spurs fans seem to have had the same original response to Southampton’s reported asking price.

Other Spurs fans suggested that Daniel Levy would be able to negotiate a much lower price, as some suggested that he could include Kyle Walker-Peters in any potential deal, with the right-back having joined Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side on loan in January.

It is unlikely that Spurs will pay £35 million for anyone this summer, considering the financial implications of the current viral outbreak, but it is especially hard to see them paying that sort of fee for Hojbjerg with the 24-year-old’s contract set to expire next season.
