Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to the latest transfer rumour, which links their club with a move for Rennes striker M’Baye Niang.

According to L’Equipe, as per GFFN, (via Hotspur Related), the North London club have made an initial approach for the striker, who is expected to cost in the region of €20-€30 million (£17.8-£26.7 million). In the recently abandoned Ligue 1 season, the 25-year-old managed to contribute 10 goals in 26 appearances, averaging a solid 6.94 rating (per WhoScored).

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

Spurs were without a senior striker for much of the earlier part of the season after Harry Kane’s hamstring injury ruled him out for a significant period, so it is perhaps no surprise to see the Lilywhites being linked with the Rennes forward this summer. The Senegalese international is currently valued at £10.8 million by Transfermarkt, suggesting he could be a relatively cheap option for Jose Mourinho in the summer window.

Would Niang be a good signing for Spurs?

Niang has played in the Premier League previously, having joined Watford on loan from AC Milan in January 2017, but his time there didn’t really go to plan; he contributed just two goals in 16 top-flight appearances (per WhoScored).

Reaction from Spurs fans to the reported interest in Niang can be seen in the tweets below.

It seems as if a lot of Spurs fans aren’t particularly keen on signing the 25-year-old ahead of next season.

Plenty of Spurs fans recalled his time with Watford and suggested that was reason enough not to sign him this summer.

Overall, it seems as if a lot of Spurs fans are not keen on signing Niang based on his previous spell in the Premier League and his reported asking price. It has also been previously reported that Spurs will be reliant on swap deals and free transfers this summer, so it would perhaps be a surprise to see them spending big on the Rennes striker.
