Tottenham Hotspur-focused journalist Ricky Sacks recently posted a tweet linking the club with a move for Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

This tweet cites Catalan publication ‘Sport’ as the original source of this alleged news and comes after the outlet recently published an article in which it claims that Barcelona are “trying to accelerate Coutinho’s departure” from the club.

The report names Tottenham and Chelsea as potential destinations for Coutinho, with the Brazilian said to be keen on a return to England.

‘Sport’ has claimed that Barca would like to receive a transfer fee worth €90m (£80.1m) for Coutinho, however, this article also states that the Catalan club feel that “no club” will offer that amount for the 27-year-old – and as a result, they are open to accepting a player-plus-cash deal for the playmaker.

As explained by Sacks in his tweet, this report explains that Tottenham would like to negotiate a loan move that would include an option for them to buy the player, as opposed to immediately signing Coutinho on a permanent deal.

A lot of Tottenham fans have flocked to Sacks’ tweet and some Spurs supporters have shared some scepticism about this alleged news.

However, some Spurs fans responded more positively to this alleged news, with one Tottenham supporter stating that they believe the club “really need this transfer” to happen.

Spurs broke their club transfer record last summer when they secured the signing of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon for £53.8m. With that in mind, it may be understandable why some Tottenham supporters have shared some scepticism over this report linking them with a move for a player who is allegedly valued at £80.11m by his current club. However, if Spurs are successful in negotiating a loan move for the player with an option to buy, that may make this deal more feasible.
