Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has been working with Harry Winks on the defensive side of his game in training – that’s according to Football.london. Alasdair Gold also went on to say the Portuguese coach will be “doing the same with Skipp.”
The Lilywhites are preparing for the Premier League’s resumption this week when they will face Mourinho’s former club, Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
On the subject of Oliver Skipp, Gold also added: “I’ve been fortunate to see a lot of Skipp in recent years in academy games and he’s a real all-around player with great technical ability. He looks like he’s been bulking up during the lockdown and that physical edge will help him battle for that DM spot which is up for grabs.”
The update was relayed by on Twitter by @TranSPURS and here is how a sample of the club’s supporters have responded.

Would you like to see Oliver Skipp given the chance in defensive-midfield?
Yes
No
It’s clear from the above responses that many of these supporters are excited by the prospect of Skipp potentially filling the defensive-midfield role. So far this season, he has been limited to just four Premier League appearances (via Transfermarkt.co.uk) but judging by the replies, there are plenty of supporters who have faith in the 19-year-old’s ability. Fans continued to make their feelings known.
Skipp can be good as a CDM…he is a good tackler played really well against Norwich.#COYS

Skipp does look the business in there. The faith Ajax had in FDJ shows you don’t need to built like Clark Kent, as long as the requisite skill is there. I’ve said for a long while that it felt like Winks was shoehorned into the 6, however, he will shine far more in the no.8 role.

It remains to be seen whether or not Mourinho considers either of the aforementioned players as a long-term solution to what has arguably been a problem position for the North London clubs in recent times; with the Lilywhites having kept just four clean sheets in the Premier League so far this season, whilst former first-team regular Victor Wanyama completed a move to Montreal Impact earlier this season. We can assume that these fans would prefer to see Skipp handed an opportunity to prove himself in the role.
