In the latest ‘The View from The Lane’ podcast for The Athletic, Jack Pitt-Brooke, Charlie Eccleshare, and James Maw discussed the upcoming fixture against Manchester United.

The latest Spurs-focused podcast from The Athletic was released earlier this week, titled ‘Vertonghen’s last hurrah’. On the podcast, the trio discussed who could start in next Friday’s game against Jose Mourinho’s old side, with Eccleshare suggesting that it could well be Eric Dier who gets the nod at centre-back, following doubts over Davinson Sanchez’s fitness.

He said: “Eric Dier started the last few before the lockdown and has been apparently really good in training. So it looks he might have the shirt, as it were, for that United game.” (10:25 – 11:15)

Heung-min Son at Tottenham Hotspur

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

It was reported before the enforced break that the former Sporting Lisbon man could be utilised more regularly as a centre-back when the season resumed, having started and impressed there against Norwich City in the FA Cup in March (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

The 26-year-old, who is valued at £18 million (as per Transfermarkt), has struggled to establish himself as a regular under Mourinho so far this season, making just 14 appearances in the Premier League and averaging a disappointing 6.63/10 rating (per WhoScored). Mourinho was reportedly a big fan of the English international during his time as Manchester United boss, so he was perhaps expected to be a regular in his side once he was appointed as Spurs manager in November, but that has not proved to be the case thus far.

Do you want to see Dier start against Manchester United next Friday?

However, with it suggested that he could get a start at centre-back for the important fixture against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side next Friday, perhaps Spurs fans will start to see the Eric Dier of old, should he thrive in his ‘new’ position. The Lilywhites are arguably in need of defensive changes, considering they have kept just four clean sheets in the top flight so far this season, whilst club stalwart Jan Vertonghen also looks set to leave the club this summer when his contract expires, so perhaps Dier could be the man to replace him in Mourinho’s long-term starting eleven.
