In recent comments made on The Athletic’s On The Ball podcast, Norwich City correspondent Michael Bailey has stated his belief that, despite the fact that the Canaries are currently bottom of the Premier League, he does not expect a mass exodus of players from the club this summer.

In the 2018/19 season, Norwich gained promotion to the top flight of English football by playing with a distinctive and attractive style of football, as well as a strict model regarding their transfer business.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

As a result of this business model, in the summer preceding their 2019/20 Premier League campaign, the club spent very little in the transfer market, leading many to predict a swift return to the Championship for Daniel Farke’s side.

And, while the Canaries are indeed bottom of the table at present, their decision to stick to the possession-based style of football that saw them win the Championship title, as well as a number of admirable results, including a 3-2 victory over reigning champions Manchester City, has left some claiming that should they go down this season, Norwich could be one of the best sides to be relegated from the Premier League.

Due to this fact, interest has been high in a number of Norwich players, such as Max Aarons, Todd Cantwell, Ben Godfrey, Emi Buendia and Jamal Lewis, however, speaking on The Athletic’s On The Ball podcast, Michael Bailey stated that he does not foresee many players leaving the club this summer:

“Norwich are not going to be an easy touch. They’ve probably got to work out at what point they want to cash in. They’ve been very good at trying to sell players for progressive amounts, so that they can keep asking for more, setting their own benchmarks.

“They did it with Alex Pritchard, the Murphy twins, James Maddison, that was kind of the benchmark, but the world is going to be so different going into the next transfer window, that what they can then command is a real aspect that’s going to need to be thought through over how their model progresses. I don’t see a lot of players leaving.”

TIF Thoughts…

Norwich are not down just yet, with the club six points from safety with nine games remaining to play this season, however, it will require a magnificent run of results to secure Premier League football for next season.

However, Bailey’s comments will likely go a long way to reassuring Norwich fans that their side will not be picked apart over the summer, even in the event that the club is relegated back to the Championship at the end of the season.
