The Chronicle has produced a report on the future of Matty Longstaff, and they believe that ‘Mike Ashley has slipped off the radar‘ in the last few weeks and is refusing to sign off on any plans amid an ongoing takeover.

To kick things off, who is this man from the 2009/10 season?

They also claim that sources close to Longstaff suggest that the 20-year-old is impressed by the career plan put to him by Udinese as well as a wage of £30,000 per week.

However, they are not alone in wanting the 20-year-old as Bordeaux and Trabzonspor also hold an interest in Sean Longstaff’s younger brother.

Newcastle have also increased their wage offer to over £20,000 per week, but Longstaff has not signed this yet.

Do you blame Mike Ashley for this?

As things stand, then the 20-year-old’s contract is up at the end of this month, and an offer of £30,000 per week must be an interesting proposition for someone who is currently thought to be on wages of £850 a week.

One problem for the Toon seems to be the fact that Ashley has blocked the potential new owners from speaking to Steve Bruce about players whose contracts expire. (12:25)

This is probably not helped by the fact Ashley is refusing to sign anything off because of the takeover, which could see Longstaff leave the club.

TIF Thoughts…

Ashley is not helping this situation by not signing off on any deals or by his refusal to allow Bruce to communicate with the potential new owners. (12:25)

His lack of action could see an academy graduate, who has scored two Premier League goals this season, leave the club for just £450,000.
