Luke Edwards has been speaking to the Gallowgate Shots podcast, and he has revealed that the Premier League was becoming irritated with suggestions that Project Restart was causing the Toon’s takeover deal to be delayed.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

The Daily Telegraph reporter spoke about many issues but he went into great detail on the Toon’s takeover.

Here is what he had to say in full about the Premier League’s irritation:

“I’ve heard on the grapevine – not directly from anyone at the Premier League – but I have heard that the Premier League have got irritated at this suggestion that it’s Project Restart that’s held it up.

“It’s nothing to do with Project Restart.

“It’s literally about looking at this deal – obviously there’s a red flag because we are now in week 11.

“It’s not like they have just waved it through.” (1:10:45)

Edwards makes some good points here, and it is clear that despite the buying side insisting there are no issues, there are clearly some issues that need to be resolved.

Do you agree with Edwards that there are red flags?

Yes, this has taken too long for there not to be

TIF Thoughts…

It was suggested that the Premier League’s Project Restart was holding up the league’s decision, but it appears as if this annoyed the PL and was not true.

It also appears that despite the buying side insisting everything is fine, something is not.

Concerns over piracy have plagued the deal, and the WTO’s report did reveal that BeoutQ, though not directly linked to the Saudi state, is from Saudi Arabia and is operated by people in the country (as per Scott Wilson).

There have been suggestions that the Saudis could have to make some concessions before their takeover is allowed through.

It certainly seems as if there are existing concerns with this takeover, and Edwards certainly does not believe that there have been no red flags.
