Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

The Daily Telegraph reporter was happy to express his views on Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed takeover of the Toon, and when asked how he sees it going, this is what he said:

“It’s 50-50 now, for me. I think the Premier League have got an excuse to block it, but I still don’t think they do want to block it.

“That’s based on gut feeling rather than evidence, and to be honest with you, what annoys me is that nobody knows what’s happening.

“Nobody knows what’s going on in the Premier League.”

It, therefore, appears as if Edwards is now unsure of this takeover going ahead.

Are you more confident than Edwards is regarding the takeover?

TIF Thoughts…

The WTO publicly released their report on Tuesday, showing the links between Saudi Arabia and BeoutQ, and though this does not mean anything on its own, it does show that the Saudi government did know about the piracy of sport.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters was once again asked about the Toon’s takeover and said that he cannot say anything but that the Premier League takes piracy ‘very seriously’.

All of this does not bode well for the Toon’s takeover; however, it should be remembered that the PL has had this report since May – so maybe the league has already taken its findings into consideration.

However, we can certainly see why Edwards is now 50-50 on this takeover because there are a lot of concerns connected to piracy in Saudi Arabia.

It will be interesting to see how the Premier League resolves this situation.
