Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

The Athletic reporter states that the potential new owners ‘have been consulted’ about issues with running the club.

This is because Newcastle are ‘approaching a point where contracts are up, loans are up, and the football is coming back.’

Caulkin, therefore, describes this period for the Toon as a ‘handover’ but he states that ‘we all thought that the handover would be done by now and it hasn’t been.’

Here is what Caulkin had to say in full about the communication between the current people who run Newcastle and those who want to:

“There has been real co-operation between both sides, and with issues concerning the running of the club, they have been consulted.

“This is what’s coming up, this is what we might have to do because we are approaching a point where contracts are up, loans are up, and the football is coming back.

“So, at the moment, we are in this period of handover. Now, we all thought that the handover would be done by now, and it hasn’t been, but there has been co-operation.”

Do you think the co-operation is working?

TIF Thoughts…

It seems as if the potential buyers, Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium, are co-operating with the current regime at St James’ Park.

However, according to Duncan Castles, they have not spoken to Steve Bruce about anything because Mike Ashley has blocked Bruce from talking. (12:27)

So, even though Caulkin says they are co-operating, it is unclear what they can do if they can’t speak to the manager.

Newcastle have a few expiring contracts at the end of this month, and though talks are underway with Javier Manquillo, Andy Carroll, and Matty Longstaff, it is unclear if they will stay on Tyneside.

Richard Masters has insisted that there is no timescale for this process – so the potential buyers and the current regime might have to continue co-operating for a bit longer yet.
