Newcastle United news Twitter account @NUFC360 caught the attention of a lot of Newcastle United fans on Twitter recently after they posted a tweet sharing that the Toon have signed 28-year-old goalkeeper Mark Gillespie.
As per @NUFC360’s tweet, Toon boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that Gillespie will move to St. James’ Park on a free transfer from Scottish side, Motherwell. A recent article from The Express shared Bruce’s confirmation of this transfer. The Express’ article explains that Gillespie’s arrival comes just after the news that fellow goalkeeper Rob Elliot is set to leave the club after spending nine years at St. James’ Park.
After this transfer news was revealed on Twitter by @NUFC360, some Toon supporters flocked to the tweet to react to this update.

However, some Newcastle fans reacted negatively to this news with one Toon supporter declaring that they think that Gillespie’s signing is ‘pointless’

Only Celtic’s Fraser Forster and Rangers’ Allan McGregor kept more Scottish Premiership clean sheets than Gillespie during the 2019/20 campaign. With that in mind, it may be fair to say that it appears as though the 28-year-old performed his role fairly effectively during the 2019/20 season in Scotland’s top tier and this might not be a terrible signing for Newcastle.
