Newcastle United news Twitter account @NUFC360 caught the attention of a lot of Toon supporters after they posted a tweet sharing some comments that Premier League chief executive Richard Masters recently made when he was questioned by the British government’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) committee.
On Monday 29th June, Chronicle Live reported that the Premier League chief would be ‘appearing at Parliament’ on Tuesday 30th June to discuss the impact of the current viral outbreak on DCMS sectors. This article also questioned whether or not Masters would be grilled over the ongoing Saudi-backed Toon takeover attempt.
Now, Chronicle Live have revealed that Masters did discuss the Saudi-backed Toon takeover bid when meeting with the DCMS committee on Tuesday morning. This article quotes Masters as saying that: “All processes have to conclude and I would like the process to conclude shortly.”
Chronicle Live also quote the Premier League chief as saying: “There’s no particular time frame that these things normally take. Some takeovers are straightforward and others aren’t.”
After @NUFC360 posted a tweet sharing some of Masters’ comments on this takeover from his recent meeting with the DCMS committee, plenty of Toon supporters flocked to this post to share their views on his latest comments.

Personally think it’s getting accepted. The piracy is obviously an issue but the PL want it to happen. Get KSA to legally show games and bid for rights later. KSA have a population of 35m compared to 3m in Qatar. A lot more money to be made by bringing them in to the PL table.

If he actually said this, it’s a massive tick in the positive column again.

While many Newcastle fans reacted positively to this update, one Toon fan was hesitant to get too excited about this news, replying to this post to state that the takeover is “up in the air, still.”
It’s up in the air still…..

Masters spoke to Sky Sports back in May and he stated that the takeover of a football club is “an entirely confidential process” that he “can’t say anything about”, so, after the Premier League chief revealed that he “would like the process to conclude shortly” during his recent meeting with the DCMS committee, it may not be too surprising that plenty of Newcastle supporters reacted positively, as this may give them an indication that they may be set to learn more about the future of their club soon.
