A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from George Caulkin that includes his piece on the contract situation of a few of the Toon’s players.
The piece claims that the Toon have told Andy Carroll that they would be ‘open to him staying’ beyond the end of the season.
The report also states that Lee Charnley made contact with the representatives of Carroll, Javier Manquillo, and Matty Longstaff, asking them to sign short-term contract extensions, which will keep them at the club until the end of the Premier League season.
Carroll is supposedly viewed as ‘essential cover’ for Joelinton, and the club might also offer the others new deals.
However, it is claimed that the potential new owners, while in contact with Mike Ashley’s ‘lieutenant’ Justin Barnes, cannot make decisions or even speak to Steve Bruce.
This whole situation has annoyed these Toon fans, who feel that this is all a mess now.
Does this situation surprise you?
No
Yes
One big mess what the PL have created. No need at all to take 3x the time frame to get a deal signed off or not signed off.

Surely this has got to be sorted before the restart of the season? Fans in the dark over season ticket money owed & players in the dark regarding contracts. Im sure if we had new owners then both of these issues would be addressed instantly.

Boggles the mind that an industry like @premierleague or @nufc, both of which are utterly reliant on the public, can choose to completely ignore their customers and the wider public with absolute impunity and zero fear of any repercussion. Sickeningly poor.

I’m terrified the state we come back in. I just can’t imagine we are as prepared as most other clubs the state of limbo/furlough we’ve been in. I can see us scrape over the line.

The ongoing takeover of Newcastle was agreed with Mike Ashley in April, but since then, nothing has happened, and the deal is still with the Premier League going through the required checks.
The Athletic believes that the potential new owners want Longstaff to stay, but he has reportedly received an offer of £30,000 per week to play for Udinese, and his deal with the Toon expires on 30th June.
The fact that talks are ongoing to extend his deal until the end of the season does not mean that the 20-year-old will be a Newcastle player next year.
However, many fans are more concerned about the takeover situation.
Could this run for months yet George ?

George, please don’t float the possibility of the takeover not happening again. That one line from this article was chilling.

As well as this, though, other Toon supporters have been discussing Carroll, with some keen for him to stay, and others not.
Gotta keep @AndyTCarroll. When he’s fit he’s the best player on the pitch. And with the contract he has I would keep him until that changes. Did he not break a record for aerial battles won in single game this season? ?

Carroll signing a new contract would be a terrible move

This whole contract situation at Newcastle is a mess, and it seems the potential owners and the current owners cannot sort any of it out until the Premier League reaches a decision.
Hopefully, for the sake of the Toon, that is not far away.
