Newcastle United fan Steve Wraith recently caught the attention of many Toon supporters after he posted a tweet sharing why he believes the ongoing Saudi-backed Newcastle United takeover attempt will ‘drag on’.
As per Chronicle Live, Amanda Staveley, the Reuben brothers, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund are still waiting for the Premier League to approve their Toon takeover bid. Sky Sports had reported that the takeover was ‘nearing completion’ over two months ago and with that in mind, it may be fair to say that this takeover has indeed dragged on thus far, and Wraith has shared that he believes the takeover will continue to do so via a recent tweet.
The Toon supporter shared that he doesn’t think the Premier League has approved this takeover bid yet and he went on to say that if the takeover does get approval, he doesn’t think it will officially be announced until the end of the 2019/20 season.
After Wraith shared this opinion on Twitter, plenty of Newcastle supporters replied to his tweet.
Why do i think #NUFCTakeover will drag on? Because I personally do not think there has been PL approval yet.
Once approved I think it makes sense to announce once we are safe and #FACup fate is decided.End of season would be a smoother transition again in my opinion #nufc pic.twitter.com/RMJuxEf4QY— Steve Wraith (@stevewraith) June 25, 2020
Some Newcastle fans were in agreement with Wraith.
End of season looking realistic now mate. Why rush? As long as it goes through happy days.

Honestly, that’s the most objective reasoning I’ve heard since this whole #NUFCtakeover started. Makes perfect sense logistically. It also gives room for an easier transition with a fresh slate. I’m with you Steve.

That’s a Good point

Fair point Steve. It’s 3-4 weeks until the end of the season. I’m happy to wait now. I’m worn out with all the negativity from the jurnos. I’m sane thanks to you Neil and shel thanks

However, other Toon supporters didn’t agree with Wraith’s view, with some sharing that they don’t believe that the club’s current owner Mike Ashley would allow the takeover announcement to be handled like this.
I’d have to disagree. As soon as the PL give approval it will set off a chain of events that have already been agreed, i.e transfer of funds and ownership. Ashley isnt going to wait for his money and the new owners will want to plan for transfer window asap.

Don’t think it could go on till end of season when owner is desperate to sell, think we’d probably see a law case from Ashley if it did

Well I’ve lost all hope

Won’t happen until we are properly safe. There’s a caveat. Bound to be.

Do you agree with Wraith's opinion?YESNO |
Chances are it will get leaked steve? Everything else has ?
— Andrew (@Chadwick_10) June 25, 2020
Something tells me you’ve been tipped a wink here @stevewraith – think you know more than you’re letting in despite the “My Opinion” assertion
Delay will clearly have a negative impact on #NUFC preparation for next season if takeover goes through.
Poor show from @premierleague

No offence meant by this but genuinely baffled by that! cant see what that would achieve? After 13 years of lies and deception I think the fans deserve honesty! If it’s done announce and put the fans out of their misery if its fallen thru announce that but dont lead them on

Considering that the takeover has been going through the Premier League’s checks for quite some time now, it may be understandable why Wraith and some Toon fans might feel that the takeover will continue to drag on until the end of the season.
However, it might also be understandable why some Newcastle fans replied to this tweet to share that they believe the news of this takeover being approved will become public knowledge once it happens, as the club’s fans may have a right to know what the status of this takeover is whenever any updates are available.
