Ciaran Kelly appeared on the latest episode of The Chronicle’s Everything is Black & White podcast and has been discussing Isaac Hayden.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

Kelly believes that the potential new Newcastle owners will be looking at Hayden as a player they will want to keep.

The Chronicle reporter spoke about other things, but he spent quite a bit of time on Hayden.

Here is what he had to say in full on the former Arsenal man.

“We talk about players like [Allan] Saint-Maximin and [Martin] Dubravka and [Miguel] Almiron being part of the club going forward and I think the new owners will be very keen to keep hold of Hayden as well.

“It seems that he is a bit more settled than he was a year ago, and if they could get him tied down, I think he is one of those players who took a lot of heart from [Steve] Bruce coming in.

“I know a lot of the fans were maybe a bit underwhelmed by that appointment last summer, but for Hayden, when he was still thinking about his future, that was a really crucial appointment for him, and you can see the benefit of having a manager who believes in him.” (12:42)

Therefore, it feels like Kelly sees Hayden as a big part of Newcastle’s future should this proposed takeover go through.

Is Hayden someone you want to see stay at St James' Park?

TIF Thoughts…

Hayden, who is now valued at £7.2 million (as per Transfermarkt), was signed from Arsenal for £2.61m in 2016, and since then, the 25-year-old has made 125 appearances for Newcastle and scored five goals and provided ten assists.

However, he only has one year left on his contract and was reportedly unsettled in the North East last year.

Hayden, though, has had a solid season in the Premier League for the Toon earning an average rating of 6.81 and in Newcastle’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United, he provided an assist and earned an 8/10 from The Chronicle for his display.

So, if this takeover does go through, it seems as if Kelly feels Hayden will be staying on Tyneside.
