Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports of the latest transfer news regarding United midfielder Matty Longstaff.

According to recent reports by Craig Hope in the Daily Mail, the 20-year-old – who is out of contract with Newcastle at the end of this month – has attracted interest from Serie A side Udinese, who would have to pay Newcastle a figure of around £450k in compensation for the midfielder.

However, the report goes on to state that should Longstaff join the Italian side, sources close to Newcastle have claimed that they fear he would soon end up back in the Premier League with Watford due of the fact that both Udinese and the Hornets are owned by the Pozzo family.

The report also states that Longstaff would actually rather stay in Newcastle, however, so far he has not accepted the club’s verbal offer of a new deal of £20k per week, and is said to be holding out for a weekly wage of £25k.

In reaction to the report, which was shared on Twitter by Hope, fans of the club have flocked to have their say on the matter, with many accusing the 20-year-old of being greedy.

Since being promoted to Newcastle United’s first-team squad earlier this season, Longstaff has gone on to enjoy a solid debut campaign thus far, featuring in seven Premier League fixtures for the club, scoring two goals and averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.63/10.

However, in comparison to the previous fans, others are apparently more aware of the potential which Longstaff could possess, suggesting that the club should indeed be paying the midfielder more, while others have called out both the media and his agent.

Despite Longstaff being a home-grown Newcastle United academy product, it would seem that many of the club’s fans would be happy enough to see him move on this summer.
