A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a tweet from Richard Keys after he claimed that he has received death threats and abuse over his stance on the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

The BeIN Sports host also claimed that Saudi Arabia has set out to ruin the company he works for – based in the country of Qatar – and that hundreds of his friends have lost their jobs because of the actions of Saudi Arabia.

This drew the attention of these Toon fans, who did not have much sympathy for Keys.

Keys has targeted the deal for Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium since the beginning, and he has continued to express his dislike of the club’s proposed takeover.

The former Sky Sports man mentioned the second bidder Henry Mauriss (3:12) and also claimed that he wished it wasn’t Newcastle who were going to be taken over. (6:40)

He has now claimed that this is not because he has an agenda against Newcastle, though, it appeared that way.

However, many Toon fans continued to express their distaste for Keys.

Keys claimed last season that Rafael Benitez should use his own money to buy players rather than whinging about Mike Ashley.

He has also defended Ashley on numerous occasions, as well as stating his objections to the club’s proposed takeover – so it is clear to see why many Toon fans don’t like him.

Having said this, if he has received death threats and other forms of abuse, then that is too far.

The deal for Staveley’s takeover is supposedly edging closer to a conclusion with the Premier League’s decision now just days away, and it is expected to be a positive conclusion that they reach.
