A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from Luke Edwards after he commented on one fan’s discovery surrounding the rumour that Matty Longstaff is set to earn £30,000 per week if he moves to Udinese.

To kick things off, who is this man from the 2009/10 season?

One Toon fan found a website that included details of Udinese players’ salaries, which suggested that if the 20-year-old were to move to Italy, he would be the club’s top earner, which this fan doubted.

This caused Edwards to tweet about the findings as he claimed this was ‘very interesting’, and his post drew the attention of these Toon fans, who seem to be wanting answers.

The website that the fan got the figures from appears to be sillyseason.com, and it does indeed show that if Longstaff were to join Udinese, he would become the club’s top earner – despite only making seven Premier League appearances.

Do you think Longstaff will end up at Watford?

No

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reported that the 20-year-old had been offered £30k a week to leave Newcastle and that this was double what the Toon had offered.

This angered many Toon fans, but these Newcastle supporters feel that this is an attempt by Watford to sign Longstaff due to the links with the Pozzo family, who own both Udinese and the Hornets.

Downie confirmed that this was possible, so we wouldn’t rule that out just yet.

Longstaff has been in negotiations with Newcastle for a while now. However, the ongoing takeover has apparently ended negotiations with Sean Longstaff’s younger brother, and Mike Ashley has blocked the potential new owners from speaking to Steve Bruce and sorting out contracts. (12:28)

So if the offer of £30,000 per week is true, then the 20-year-old has some thinking to do.

Of course, there is doubt because of the wage, while the Watford connection cannot be ruled out.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Longstaff’s situation.
