Some Newcastle United fans have been talking about the latest update involving Matty Longstaff that emerged on social media.

The Telegraph recently reported that the Magpies have now increased their wage offer for Longstaff to more than £20k a week. This is reportedly an attempt to persuade him to reject a potential move to Udinese. The report claimed that the younger Longstaff brother was initially offered £15,000 a week, but the Dacia Arena-based Italian side offered £30,000 a week.

To kick things off, who is this man from the 2009/10 season?

This news was relayed on Twitter by NUFC 360. It caught the attention of many Newcastle fans, who were quick to express their opinions about the news. Two of them felt that it is a fair deal for the midfielder.

Would Longstaff be wise to reject Newcastle?

Yes, he should leave!

Yes, he should leave!

He has to stay

He has to stay

The report from The Telegraph also states that Longstaff currently earns just £850 a week and the talks to sign a new deal have been dragging on for the last few months, while Udinese’s wage offer will make Longstaff the highest-paid player in their team.

Some other fans feel that there is something afoot and speculated whether Longstaff’s agent has been up to some tricks.

A couple of other Newcastle fans feel that news of the club’s improved offer isn’t even true, and that nothing of the sort has happened so far.

The 2019/20 season saw Longstaff make 12 appearances in all competitions for the senior side. Seven of them came in the Premier League, where he scored two goals, with both coming against Manchester United (via Transfermarkt).

This shows that Longstaff may still have potential to grow. He is still only 20 and this is his first season in senior-level football. In that sense, keeping him at the club is justified and Newcastle fans should be happy if he ends up staying.
