In recent comments made on The Athletic, the website’s Manchester City correspondent, Sam Lee, discussed how he believes the club will react if Leroy Sane departs over the upcoming transfer window.

It is absolutely no secret that Leroy Sane is hoping to leave Manchester City this summer, with Pep Guardiola recently confirming that the 24-year-old has indeed informed him of this desire, with German giants Bayern Munich circling like vultures above the winger.

Man City fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Yaya Toure quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one... Who did Yaya Toure sign for City from back in 2010?

However, there has been a significant disagreement on the figure with which Bayern would be willing to pay for Sane, and the one which Manchester City would be willing to receive to let him go.

With both sides appearing firm on their current stances, this has opened the possibility of Sane remaining in Manchester for a further season – until the expiry of his contract next summer – and, subsequently, being free to discuss terms with whoever offers them.

Although, one would assume that City would want to avoid this circumstance at all costs, as it would see them receive no transfer fee for a player who is currently valued at £72million, meaning that it would seem likely that City may have to, eventually, compromise on their asking price for the winger.

And, in recent comments on made on The Athletic, Sam Lee discussed what be believed would be City’s plan of action for life after Sane.

He said: “I [also] think City have said privately they’ll try to replace Sane this summer – which is significant because last summer they eventually said they wouldn’t even try. So I do think they’ll go for a winger. UNLESS – they get a top-class attacking LB [left-back] and that allows them to use Foden/Jesus on the left, but I don’t think that can be sustained all season and I do think they need a new winger who can bring some unpredictability.”

TIF Thoughts…

As Lee states, it would appear that City will be in the market for a replacement for Sane this summer, unless the club can find an attacking left-back, which would then allow Guardiola to field one of Gabriel Jesus or Phil Foden from the left-wing.
