According to recent reports, Manchester City attacking midfielder Phil Foden is set to start the club’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Burnley.

The reports by the Manchester Evening News claim that Foden will start Monday’s match, in addition to the fact that the 20-year-old is confident he will get the chances at City that will allow him to secure a place in Gareth Southgate’s England side.

Man City fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Yaya Toure quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one... Who did Yaya Toure sign for City from back in 2010?

Speaking after City’s convincing 3-0 win against Arsenal on Wednesday night, in which Foden impressed during his short time on the pitch – scoring his side’s third goal and earning a WhoScored match rating of 7.40/10, Foden stated:

“The boss said everyone needs to be ready because not everyone can play every game now, a full 90 minutes. Everyone needs to be ready. He’s going to rotate a lot, so everyone just needs to take their chance. I’ll be ready for whenever I play and try and do my best.”

TIF Thoughts…

Since being promoted to the Manchester City first team back in 2017, and subsequently making his debut in a 4-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in December of the same year, Foden has made 63 appearances for the club, scoring an impressive 11 goals and registering 10 assists.

And with David Silva announcing that he is departing the club this summer, it would appear a likely scenario that Foden will have a chance to impress both Pep Guardiola and Southgate next term.

Guardiola has previously claimed that Foden is the ‘most talented player‘ he has ever seen, so the 20-year-old may have already earned the trust of his current manager.
