Liverpool’s senior officials are expecting a ‘relatively quiet’ transfer window this summer, according to James Pearce of The Athletic.

The update was provided during a recent Q&A session with some of the club’s supporters which took place this week. In response to a question from one of the fans regarding the club’s summer transfer business, Pearce said: “As I’ve reported, senior Anfield officials are expecting a relatively quiet window for LFC.

“It’s not as if [Jurgen] Klopp needs to do much business. I’d expect one or two deals. The window isn’t even open yet and UEFA have said today it won’t close until early October, so a lot can happen between now and then. By the start of August, the financial landscape should look clearer regarding the media/commercial revenues and when fans may be allowed back in.”

The Reds were heavily linked with a move for German international striker Timo Werner recently, however, the club’s refusal to meet the player’s release clause opened the door for him to join Chelsea. Liverpool’s reluctance to spend such a significant amount of money on a single player could be a sign of things to come at Anfield this summer, due to the financial impact of the global pandemic.

Pearce made the point that ‘it’s not as if Klopp needs to do much business’, and given the team’s incredible success in recent times, it’s difficult to argue with that.
