Colin Murray has been waxing lyrical about the Liverpool midfielder Fabinho on a recent episode of the BBC’s Football Daily Podcast. His comments came off the back of the club’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, which saw them take another significant step towards the Premier League crown.

The 26-year-old played in the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield and his performance on the night earned him a rating of 9.6/10 according to WhoScored.com, making him the man of the match. As well as turning in a dominant display, the Brazilian added Liverpool’s third from long-range as well as picking out Mohamed Salah with a stunning pass for their second.

Following the conclusion of the match, Murray was full of praise for the player, he said: “Fabinho again was amazing. He’s maybe not the first name on everyone’s lips when you talk about irreplaceable Liverpool players, but this season, he’s been a revelation.

“They call him The Hoover, that’s his nickname at the club for obvious reasons – he cleans everything up, but he’s like the video game Pac-Man – he just gobbles up white round circles until it says game over.

“He was imperious tonight: the assist for Salah, the wondergoal, similar to the one he scored against Man City. It’s more than that, he’s that player, a footballer’s footballer.”

TIF Thoughts…

Fabinho’s performance versus Palace was undoubtedly impressive, however, judging by his average performance rating in the Premier League across the entire season of 6.97/10, on this occasion, he was significantly better than he has been.

The former Monaco man arrived on Merseyside in July 2018 in a deal reportedly worth £40.50m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) and after that wonderful display against Roy Hodgson’s side, it looks as though he has finally shown his full potential.
