Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri is reportedly close to leaving the Merseyside club this summer.

This comes after it was claimed in a report from the Daily Mail that Shaqiri “will depart” the club in the coming weeks.

The report also added that fellow Premier League side Newcastle United are “keen on signing” the winger this summer, but he will “command a substantial fee”.

The 28-year-old signed to the Merseyside club from Championship side Stoke City back in 2018 for a fee of £13.23 million (per Transfermarkt).

Since then, the winger has gone on to make 40 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, in which he has managed to score seven goals and provide five assists (per Transfermarkt).

However, Shaqiri’s campaign has been plagued by injuries that have kept him out of the squad at times.

This season has seen the winger, who is currently valued at £14.4 million according to Transfermarkt, make just six Premier League appearances for the club.

TIF Thoughts…

It is a shame that Shaqiri’s time at Liverpool could be ending this summer when he hasn’t really managed to leave much of an impact since signing – as evidenced by his lack of action this season.

If he can overcome his injury issues and move somewhere else that can offer him more playing time, that could be a big boost for Shaqiri.

His spell at Liverpool has not been completely disastrous though, as the winger has helped the club pick up a trio of titles which includes the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
