Liverpool have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar. Juninho, the club’s sporting director, has spoken out in regards to the 21-year-old’s future, openly admitting the Ligue 1 outfit may have a problem holding onto the midfielder, as per RMC Sport.

The Reds were previously said to be ‘very interested’ in bringing the player to Anfield, and so the Brazilian’s comments may be well received on Merseyside. He did, however, stress that ‘the president will decide’ on whether Aouar is sold or not.

Juninho went on to say: “If we receive proposals, we will analyse” – suggesting that if the price is right, Lyon would be open to selling their midfield star.

Aouar was having an impressive campaign up until the French football season was ended due to the global pandemic. He had made 25 league appearances for Rudi Garcia’s side, scoring three goals and providing his teammates with four assists.

In Ligue 1 this season, his average performance rating was 7.02/10, according to WhoScored.com, which makes for positive reading, however, in the UEFA Champions League it was even more impressive – at 7.73/10.

TIF Thoughts…

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, he is valued at £44.55m. We can assume that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas would be looking for that amount as a minimum and given the impact of the global pandemic, and Liverpool’s recent apparent refusal to meet Timo Werner’s release clause, it is not known whether the Reds are looking to spend that kind of money on a single player this summer.
