Liverpool journalist Joe Rimmer has been sharing his thoughts on Reds winger Xherdan Shaqiri and his future at the Merseyside club.

This comes after Rimmer recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast to discuss the latest news surrounding the club.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the topic of Shaqiri, Rimmer shared this latest update on the winger.

He said: “I think the clock’s ticking on Xherdan Shaqiri’s Liverpool career, but I think I’ll look back on his time at Liverpool very fondly. I hope that he can come back and play some games, make an impact and just be a part of this season, because he hasn’t really been a big part of it at all, has he?

“He’s got himself a derby goal, which is a nice memory for him. But I’d like to see him play a bit more of a part.”

Would you like to see Shaqiri play for Liverpool before this season ends?

The 28-year-old signed to Liverpool from Stoke City back in 2018 for a fee of £13m.

Since then, the Swiss international has gone on to make 40 appearances for the Reds, in which he has managed to score seven goals and provide five assists (per Transfermarkt).

However, numerous injuries have disrupted Shaqiri’s time as a Liverpool player.

This season has seen the winger, who is currently valued at £14.4 million according to Transfermarkt, make just six Premier League appearances for the club, scoring just one goal in those appearances.

Shaqiri’s last Premier League appearance for the Reds came back in January when he made a brief cameo in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

TIF Thoughts…

It’s a shame that Rimmer doesn’t see a bright future for Shaqiri at Anfield. However, the fact that he has hopes to see the winger in action for Klopp’s side before this current season ends just goes to show that he has a lot of admiration for the winger.
