Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren will “push hard” to force a move away from the club, according to David Lynch, the club’s correspondent for the Evening Standard.

Lynch was speaking on The Kopite Podcast earlier this week and shared his views on what the future holds for the Croatian defender. It was reported by The Athletic’s James Pearce back in November that the 30-year-old was ‘open to the idea of moving to Serie A’ last summer after ‘attracting interest from both Roma and AC Milan’.

Pearce went on to claim that after a move failed to materialise, Jurgen Klopp told him: “We need you,” before saying: “I know you’re not happy but reset your head. You’re still important to us.”

Here’s what Lynch said about the defender:

“He gets a lot of criticism, but as a fourth-choice centre-half, there’s not many as good but he will push hard to make a move away happen this summer.”

The former Southampton centre-back has been limited to just nine appearances in the Premier League this season, with the latest coming in the 3-0 defeat at Watford back in February, which ended the club’s hopes of going the entire season unbeaten.

TIF Thoughts…

Lynch has a point. No matter how successful the team, it will always be difficult to keep hold of talented players without giving them the game time they feel they deserve.

Lovren is not without his faults, but the fact he wants to play regular football deserves praise and shows he is not happy to settle for collecting medals without making a significant contribution.

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, he is currently valued at £14.4m, while his average performance rating in the Premier League this season stands at 7.14/10 (via WhoScored.com). Therefore, in our opinion, although he may not join a side ready to challenge for a title, there should be no shortage of suitors interested in snapping Lovren up.
