Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has addressed the club’s transfer plans for the summer transfer window.

Rodgers was a guest on the BBC’s Leicester City Football Forum podcast recently. While he was asked about many things involving the Foxes, Rodgers was also questioned about the club’s transfer plans for the summer and how they would go about signing players.

Rodgers said that while the club knows what it is needed for the side to improve, it has been ‘very, very quiet’ for the Foxes. But he also confirmed that the club has held ‘conversations’ when it comes to potential deals.

The Northern Irishman said: “It’s been very, very quiet, to be honest. And of course, we’re aware of what we need in order to continue to improve.”

Do Leicester City need a marquee signing this summer?

No, we don't

No, we don't

Yes, surely

Yes, surely

He also said: “But it’s felt difficult. I’ve got to be honest to talk too much on it because we’re still finding out where everything is going to be. There’s obviously a lot of speculation going around. So there are rumours and gossip about players and everything, which is pretty right for the moment.

“But in terms of inquiries, we have been very, very quiet. And in relation to improve the squad – of course, we’ve had lots of conversations. And I think that will really start to probably ramp up a little bit more once we get back into football and people understand where the climate is.”

Foxes defender Ben Chilwell has recently been linked with a move to Chelsea. But it has been reported that Leicester see Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand as a potential replacement for the Englishman. Burnley’s James Tarkowski has also been linked with a move to the King Power Stadium.

TIF Thoughts…

The fact that Rodgers talks about ‘conversations’ having been held shows that the club is still active on the transfer front. While there is no clarity about who these ‘conversations’ can be for, it could give fans something to look forward to.

Leicester are in the third spot in the Premier League currently and they could well seal Champions League qualification for next season. Playing in the Champions League could bring in an extra demand for squad depth in the club’s side. So the Foxes might have to bring some players in to increase the depth they have currently.

From a financial perspective, the pandemic will make it tough for clubs and Rodgers does address that factor too. But fans can only hope that the club manages to rope in their transfer targets in the summer transfer window.
