Le 10 Sport have reported that Everton are interested in signing Olympique de Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara, who is also allegedly being targeted by the Toffees’ Merseyside rivals, Liverpool.

This report includes a link to a previous article from Le 10 Sport which named Everton as one of a host of English clubs that were interested in signing LOSC Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes. However, Le 10 Sport’s recent report also states that Serie A side Napoli have ‘taken a serious lead’ in the race for the Lille man’s signature.

As Gabriel edges closer to a move to Italy, Le 10 Sport has claimed that the Toffees have got Kamara’s name on their shortlist ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

However, this report does state that Everton could also face competition from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool for Kamara’s signature, while his current club Marseille are also said to be hopeful of retaining the 20-year-old’s services for next season.

TIF Thoughts…

Everton have conceded a total of 46 goals in the Premier League this season, which is more than all but six other teams in England’s top tier, five of which currently occupy the bottom five places on the Premier League table

With that in mind, it may not come as a surprise that reports are claiming that Carlo Ancelotti’s side is hoping to strengthen their defence this summer.

It may be fair to say that Kamara is a versatile player, having featured at both centre-back and defensive midfield in the 2019/20 season for Andre Villas-Boas’ Marseille. According to WhoScored, he earned an average overall rating of 6.99 from his 24 appearances in Ligue 1 prior to the cancellation of France’s top tier, making him Marseille’s sixth-highest rated player in the league.

Kamara completed 2.8 tackles per game and 1.4 interceptions per game in Ligue 1 during the 2019/20 season. Only Djibril Sidibe has completed more tackles per game and more interceptions per game for Everton in the Premier League this season than the France U21 international completed in Ligue 1.

Kamara also played 54.4 passes per game in Ligue 1 during the 2019/20 season which is more passes than any Everton player has played per Premier League game this term. These stats may show that Kamara could have something to offer the Toffees and it may be understandable if Everton do look to sign the 20-year-old Marseille player in order to strengthen their defence this summer.
