The latest on the transfer link between Everton and LOSC Lille’s Brazilian central defender Gabriel Magalhaes has emerged.
According to L’Equipe, as cited by Sport Witness, the Toffees and Napoli are the two clubs that are ‘one step ahead’ of other suitors for the centre-back.
It is stated in the report, however, that the 22-year-old defender is being ‘wooed by several teams’ who are keen for his signature.
The piece included quotes from the player himself, with the Brazilian stating that he wants to ‘go as high as possible’ with the move to his next club.
L’Equipe’s report came shortly after one from Sky Italia earlier in the week, which stated the opposite to the latest report.
As per Sport Witness, Sky Italia had stated that Carlo Ancelotti’s outfit had ‘pulled back’ from their chase for the defender, leaving Napoli as a clear frontrunner.

Following the two conflicting reports on Everton’s interest in signing Magalhaes from Lille, it seems very unclear if the Toffees are still in the race for the Brazilian.
Should Ancelotti’s side still be pursuing the 22-year-old and were able to land the defender, they would be receiving a very capable player.
During the 2019/20 season, the Brazilian was Lille’s fourth-best performing player after 24 Ligue 1 appearances (per WhoScored).

To earn his spot as the fourth-best performer, Magalhaes had earned a very solid 6.93/10 average rating.
As stated in Sky Italia’s report, Napoli are looking at paying €25m (£22.6m) for the centre-back, which seems fairly reasonable due to his impressive Ligue 1 season.
So, if L’Equipe’s report is true and the Toffees are still in the running for the defender, they may not have to pay over the odds to get a promising centre-back.
