Rumoured Everton transfer target Thiago Silva is reportedly set to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of this month.

According to L’Equipe, the Brazilian defender has been told by PSG’s sporting director Leonardo that his future is no longer in Paris.

That is due to the fact that the 35-year-old centre-back’s contract is set to expire at the end of this month (per Transfermarkt) and he will not be offered a new deal amid claims the defender has rejected a pay cut in order to stay with the French champions.

We'll start easy for this Everton kits quiz, which shirt sponsor did the Toffees announce that their partnership with would be being brought to a premature end earlier this season?

A new contract has been in the air for a few weeks, however, it is now looking likely that the 88-cap Brazil international will be leaving PSG at the end of the month according to the report.

L’Equipe went on to state that this has put the Toffees ‘on alert’ as Carlo Ancelotti is keen to bring the defender to Merseyside, as cited by the Daily Mail.

TIF Thoughts…

Despite appearing set to be released by the Parisian club, the 35-year-old made 30 appearances for PSG during the 2019/20 season (per Transfermarkt).

Six of those 30 appearances for the club came in the Champions League, proving that he can still play at the highest level of the game.

The centre-back has captained the side through the majority of the season, too – showing his leadership abilities.

Even if his wages are high, should the Toffees sign Thiago Silva on a free transfer in the summer?

Yes, would be a good signing

No, he's not good enough

No, he's not good enough

In comparison to one of Everton’s defenders, Yerry Mina, Silva’s defensive abilities do not look overly impressive, but still relatively respectable.

In Ligue 1 over the 2019/20 season, the Brazilian averaged 1.3 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game (per WhoScored), whereas Mina has averaged 1.5 tackles and 1 interception per game in the Premier League (per WhoScored).

So, it seems that the 35-year-old would still be a good addition to the backline, though perhaps not any better than what the Toffees already have in Mina.
