Steven Gerrard has claimed that ‘Everton are really lucky’ to have Carlo Ancelotti as their boss because of his football CV.

To kick off this quiz on the goings-on with the Toffees last week, which brand did the club announce would be their new kit maker in mid-week?

The former Liverpool man was speaking to James Pearce of The Athletic and claimed that Jurgen Klopp was the ‘best manager in the world’, and then he mentioned Pep Guardiola and Ancelotti alongside the German.

Here’s exactly what he had to say:

“Let’s cut to the chase, sitting here, doing this interview right now, I think Jurgen Klopp is the best manager in the world,” Gerrard says. “I know there are a lot of successful managers about. Pep Guardiola is exceptional. Carlo Ancelotti is exceptional, too, and I think Everton are really lucky to have him with his CV. I could name many more.”

This is high praise indeed coming from a man who played for the Toffees’ great rivals for 17 years, and it just shows how respected the Italian is in the world of football.

Ancelotti was appointed Everton’s boss in December 2019, and he has seen the Toffees win five Premier League games and only lose three out of his first 11.

His arrival has also brought the best out of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has scored an impressive eight league goals since Ancelotti arrived at Goodison Park.

TIF Thoughts…

It is good to hear Gerrard praising Ancelotti, and perhaps it shows how well respected the former Chelsea boss is.

The current Rangers manager talks about Ancelotti’s CV, and it is very impressive.

He has won 19 trophies including three UEFA Champions League trophies and four league titles. (Not including individual honours)

It is this winning mentality that Everton fans are probably hoping will rub off on their club and see them win their first major silverware since 1995.

Ancelotti has managed the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, PSG, and AC Milan, so maybe Gerrard is right that the Toffees are lucky to have him at Goodison Park?

Either way, it doesn’t matter because Ancelotti’s contract runs until 2024 – so he should have plenty of time to make an impact.
