Italian publication Calciomercato has published a report claiming that Everton are interested in signing Lyon attacker Memphis Depay.

This report states that discussions between Depay and his current club Lyon over a contract renewal are “proceeding slowly”, with he and the club currently said to be “very far apart” at the moment with regard to agreeing on a new deal.

We'll start easy for this Everton kits quiz, which shirt sponsor did the Toffees announce that their partnership with would be being brought to a premature end earlier this season?

Depay’s current Lyon contract is set to expire at the end of June 2021 and with talks over a new deal at his current club moving at a slow pace, the Dutchman is said to be considering a change of scenery at the end of the current campaign, according to Calciomercato.

This may be bad news for fans of Les Gones, as no Lyon player has earned a higher average overall rating than Depay in either Ligue 1 or the UEFA Champions League during the 2019/20 campaign according to WhoScored. Depay was also only behind Moussa Dembele in Lyon’s Ligue 1 scoring charts, scoring nine goals in 13 showings before his untimely injury in December.

This report also claims that Lyon reportedly value the player at €30m (£26.74m) at present. Everton spent more than £20m to secure the signing of a total of four different players respectively last summer, so this may be an affordable signing for the Toffees.

TIF Thoughts…

As per Transfermarkt, Depay ruptured his crucial ligament back in December and the attacker hasn’t featured on the pitch for his current club since then. Considering that he has been out of action since such a long time, this may be a risky move for Everton if they are indeed considering making a move for the Dutchman, despite the fact that he was enjoying some good form earlier on this season, prior to suffering this injury.
