Fans of Everton have been responding to a social media post which was made by the Toffees’ Portuguese midfielder, Andre Gomes.
On Saturday, the 26-year-old took to Twitter to mention the Premier League’s impending return to action (via Everton).
As revealed on Thursday last week, England’s top flight will be returning to action on 17th June, with the first matches set to take place being Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal.
Following the news, Gomes took to Twitter and stated: “We’re back! Counting the days.” He added a photo of himself playing for the Toffees (per Andre Gomes).
The midfielder had missed large swathes of the season prior to football being suspended in the UK due to the current viral outbreak (per BBC).
During the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur back in November, the Portuguese middleman suffered a broken and dislocated ankle which saw him sidelined for several months (per BBC).
However, after his recovery from the injury earlier this year, it seems that the 26-year-old is raring for the season to get back underway.
Following Gomes’ Twitter post, supporters flocked to social media to air their excitement over the Premier League returning and their well-wishes for the player.

Despite suffering the long-term injury, Gomes has made 11 appearances for the Toffees in England’s top flight so far this season (per WhoScored).
So keen up the blues ??

You’re not the only one counting the days ?? ?

Despite getting the warm reaction from supporters, it is fair to say that across his 11 appearances for the Toffees in the Premier League this term, Gomes has delivered some under-par performances.
A 6.32/10 average rating has left the Portugal international as the fifth-worst performer of those who have featured for the Goodison Park club this term. Fans did not seem to mind, though.
Is Andre Gomes the best central midfielder that the Toffees currently have?Yes, he is absolute qualityNo, he's not that good |
??come on Andre lad ?

While the majority of fans shared their delight following Andre Gomes’ tweet, others were not as keen on the idea of the league returning.
Not the slightest bit interested, football without fans is worthless. The season ended when the outbreak started. This is just to keep broadcasters and armchair fans happy.

As can be seen in these responses from Everton fans, while some were less enthusiastic, the majority of fans were keen to gush following the 26-year-old’s post to Twitter.
