According to recent reports, Crystal Palace are ‘close’ to the signing of Nathan Ferguson, after West Bromwich Albion confirmed the upcoming departure of the defender.

A statement on West Brom’s website, made by the club’s sporting and technical director, Luke Dowling, read: “We have made what can only be considered a very attractive offer to Nathan but he intends to pursue his career elsewhere,” meaning that Ferguson will be leaving the club when his current contract expires on 30 June.

As such, Ferguson, who has made 21 appearances throughout West Brom’s promotion push this season, will be available on a free transfer as of next month, with The Guardian reporting that Crystal Palace are looking increasingly to land the player.

The report also states that the Eagles had previously agreed to sign the 19-year-old for £8million in January before a knee injury meant that the player required surgery, and the deal was called off.

TIF Thoughts…

Having been at West Brom from the age of eight, Ferguson has impressed in what was his debut season in professional football, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the Championship this term.

The defender also boasts significant versatility, being able to operate from any position across the defence.

And, at just 19-years-old, one would assume that the defender will only improve with time, meaning that, should Palace manage to sign the player, they will potentially have a great prospect on their hands.

In addition to this, the fact that he is leaving West Brom on a free transfer means that a tribunal will decide the amount of compensation that Palace have to pay the Baggies, which could be lower than the £8 million figure agreed in January.
