The Athletic’s Aston Villa journalist Dan Bardell recently discussed whether or not he believed that Tyrone Mings will remain at the club beyond this summer.

Following an initial loan spell at the club during the second half of last season, Mings joined Villa on a permanent basis last summer, moving from Bournemouth for the substantial fee of £20.07m.

Who scored Villa's goal in their 1-0 win against Stoke City on the opening day of the 2014/15 Premier League season?

In total, the defender has made 47 appearances for the Birmingham-based club, scoring four goals and providing one assist, with the centre-back also going on to earn two caps for England during his time at Villa.

Mings has established himself as a crucial part of the side’s defence this term, missing just five of Aston Villa’s Premier League fixtures, with the club losing four of those matches.

And, speaking recently on The Villa View podcast, Dan Bardell discussed whether he sees Mings remaining at the club beyond this summer.

He said: “I look at it and I think about the agency that he’s joined recently, he’s becoming this big figurehead, isn’t he? Tyrone Mings is almost becoming a brand on his own. And, if there’s interest in him from big clubs, I think he’ll want to go and prove himself and keep himself in the England squad. Maybe there’s a chance of keeping him if you [Villa] stay up but if you [Villa] go down, he’s gone.”

TIF Thoughts…

With Villa currently occupying 19th place in the Premier League table and just eight games remaining of the season, the side certainly face a challenge to ensure that they are playing top-flight football once again next season.

If they aren’t, as Bardell states, it is not difficult to imagine Mings seeking a move to ensure that he remains in the England setup.
