Who scored Villa's goal in their 1-0 win against Stoke City on the opening day of the 2014/15 Premier League season?

The 23-year-old first signed to the Birmingham club back in the previous summer transfer window from Club Brugge for a club-record fee of £22.5 million (per Transfermarkt).

Unfortunately for Wesley and Villa, his debut season was cut short after a tackle from Burnley’s Ben Mee damaged his knee ligaments during Villa’s 2-1 win at Turf Moor earlier in the season (per BBC Sport).

Despite the current Premier League season recently resuming after a temporary suspension due to the impact of the current global pandemic, Wesley still hasn’t made an appearance for the club since January.

Before suffering this injury, the striker had managed to score six goals and provide one assist for Dean Smith’s side in 22 total appearances across all competitions.

Wesley had fared pretty well before his injury with his performances in the 21 Premier League games he played earning him a season rating of 6.76/10, making him Villa’s sixth highest-rated performer in this campaign (per WhoScored).

Would Villa still be in the relegation zone if Wesley had stayed fit all season?

TIF Thoughts…

It’s great to hear that Wesley is making progress with his long recovery.

With Villa currently sitting in the relegation zone of the Premier League table, you could suggest that Villa have missed the goals that Wesley could have provided had he stayed fit for the rest of the season.

The hope for Wesley now would be that he can get fit enough to make an appearance for Villa before the season ends to try and help his team avoid relegation this year.
